UAN is a modern liquid fertilizer consisting of a mixture of three forms of nitrogen (nitrate, ammonium and amide).
This combination creates the effect of prolonged feeding, which starts immediately after application and continues for some time, depending on the activity of bacteria and soil temperature. An additional plus – there is no free form in UAN that can be released as vapor into the atmosphere. The presence of the ammonium form makes it necessary to think about sealing the application site, since dry and hot weather can contribute to the loss of nitrogen from the application site. But even in this case, liquid fertilizers show excellent results, in comparison with solid – 10% loss in liquid, versus 30-40% in granular.
The application of liquid fertilizer makes it technologically easier to accurately maintain a given application rate per unit area.
