One form of liquid nitrogen fertilizer is ammonia water - a solution of ammonia in water. Colorless or with a yellowish tinge. This drug also has disinfectant properties. When introduced into the soil as a source of nitrogen, ammonia water destroys the larvae of harmful insects at a depth of introduction.
This fertilizer is commonly used at summer. The process of applicating includes compulsory embedding in the ground: 10-12 cm on loamy soils and 12-15 cm on sandy loam. It is unacceptable to apply on the surface without embedding. For soils of light mechanical composition, the embedding depth is the entire depth of the arable layer. Immediately after the application, ammonium water acidifies the pH, binds well to the soil and is not washed out by precipitation.
Nitrogen in ammonia water is better retained by the soil than ammonium nitrogen. When fertilizing tilled crops, water should be applied between the rows; before sowing, the width between the coulters should be reduced to 20 cm.
Nitrogen from ammonia water becomes available to plants immediately after application, contributes to the destruction of the larvae in the soil and can be dangerous to humans. The application process must be carried out by trained personnel, and specially equipped technics must be used. It is necessary to strictly observe safety precautions. Before use, all units must be checked for serviceability.
Ammonium water liquid fertilizer is attractive because of its price, which is lower per kilogram of nitrogen than that of granular fertilizers. This is due to the large number of stages of production of dry granules: granulation, drying, sorting, conditioning. Thermal energy is spent on evaporation, and since energy prices are rising, liquid fertilizers are becoming cheaper, relatively granular.
As in the case of using UAN 32, ammonia water is convenient for recording and depositing because it is a liquid. The farm, where it is planned to use liquid fertilizers, needs to purchase equipment for the storage and application of liquid fertilizers once. Then all the processes of loading, storage, transportation and application will be fully mechanized.
