Tank for working fluid of the sprayer

DAMMANN-trac DT 3500

Sometimes the sprayer tank is called the heart of this agricultural machine, although this is a very controversial statement. In any case, it is one of the most visible elements of its entire structure. Its volume depends on the load capacity of the unit and is set at the design stage.

Large tank of the sprayer is good?

The volume of the sprayer tank up to 3500 liters and the boom width up to 24 m are considered optimal for small and medium-sized farms (up to 3000 ha). If the area is larger, then you will need sprayers with a tank of more than 3,500 liters. The most famous «mastodon» of this plan is the model DAMMANN-trac DT 3500 with a tank of 12000 liters and a permissible total weight of 25 tons. Boom size from 30 to 42 m. To carry a tank with such a mass through the fields (and not the highway) you need a reliable undercarriage. Width - 2.55 m (or wider, depends on the track and tires), that is, for traveling on public roads such a sprayer must receive permission. At the same time, smaller models in terms of loading capacity and size will be able to move around without such restrictions.

What determines the shape of the spray tank?

The shape of the tank is determined by the requirements for it, namely:

  • during operation (driving on the field and even on a slope) it should be possible to completely empty the tank;
  • after work it should be easy to rinse;
  • inside it should be possible to install a mixer (for mixing the working fluid);
  • there should be a constructive ability to install devices that determine the level of the liquid;
  • at the entrance it should be possible to install a coarse particle filter.

Thus, it is impossible to use the form like cylinder - its corners will very quickly be clogged up with sediments, which will be impossible to clean. Therefore, today on the market you can see equipment with the most bizarre forms of tanks. For example, in the form of a cube with cropped corners (so that the liquid does not stand in the corners). The form will be affected by the requirements of the carrier frame, on which the tank must be securely fastened.

During operation, the fluid can begin to swing, having a significant mechanical effect on the attachments and even the sprayer itself. Different manufacturers offer their solutions to prevent swirling fluid in the tank. These can be design features of the tank itself, various internal partitions.

What materials are used for spray tank production

The main requirement for a sprayer tank is chemical resistance. Therefore, small, up to 1500l, made of polyethylene. The larger ones are made of fiberglass (polyester) and reinforced with fiberglass. These materials, as well as stainless steel, are resistant to the action of all chemicals used in agriculture and resist mechanical stress well. On the frame, the tank must be placed so that all axles of the sprayer are loaded evenly.

Self-propelled sprayer Vodoley

If the tank is made of ordinary steel, the inner surface must be protected with an anti-corrosion coating. As an additional mechanism of protection against sedimentation of the active substance on the walls of the tank and pipes, the working fluid supply system may include a circuit for a circular fluid supply. In this case, even at a low rate of liquid outflowing, it is pumped inside the system at a rate that slows down the sedimentation.

For flushing the main tank and washing the hands on the sprayer, they usually install additional tanks for clean water that have connection to the system that flushes the main tank.

Before buying a sprayer it is worth knowing what material the tank is from in order to understand the possible nuances of its operation. For example, a tank made of ordinary steel with an anti-corrosion coating is cheaper than an analogue of stainless steel, but its owner should regularly check the condition of this coating. Plastic is more vulnerable to mechanical attacks than steel, but weighs less.

Self-propelled sprayer-spreader series «Vodoley»

Self-propelled sprayers-spreaders of the «Vodoley» series are equipped with a tank for 1000/1500l and ultra-low pressure tires. The pressure of the wheels on the soil is not more than 160 g/cm², so that it can move on the very damp soil, when other technics just gets stuck. Under any condition of the soil, you can be sure that liquid fertilizers will be applied.
