Joy for a flower lover - buy orchid phalaenopsis or dendrobium

What fan of indoor plants does not dream of growing a dendrobium orchid at home? These unusual flowers exist on all continents except Antarctica. To have it at your home, the simplest and most effective option is to buy an orchid inexpensively. Dendrobium is translated from Latin, as «living in a tree». Orchid Phalaenopsis got its name in memory of the error – it seemed that it was not a flower and a butterfly to Carl Blume on a tree. And so its name translates as «butterfly-like».

As already obvious, the main «place of residence» orchids dendrobium and phalaenopsis are trees. Their reproduction at home is a rather difficult task – seeds of flowers are of microscopic size and completely devoid of nutrient reserves. Therefore, especially for fans of these flowers, the company «Comprehensive AgroService» realizes orchid seedlings in plastic containers for five flowers in one.

Initially, the seeds of orchids are placed in a special nutrient medium (in vitro). When the size of sprouts allows, they are placed in plastic containers, five plants each. Now, connoisseurs can buy an orchid baby to independently transplant homes into the ground and take care of them.

Thanks to the availability equipment for microcloning of the plants, the cultivation of orchid seedlings takes place under sterile conditions. The peculiarity of packaging for five sprouts makes it possible to buy orchids in bulk.

After growing in sterile conditions, young orchids may have difficulty adapting to normal conditions. To grow dendrobium at home will require patience and attention. If suddenly you find an infection on the flower (more often fungi), be ready to use various means.

Care for dendrobium and phalaenopsis before planting

Adaptation of orchids in vitro – laborious, but pleasant process, because very soon you will be able to observe how your small plants grow and develop. For success at this stage, the experience of specialists is important. After the flower is large enough to be planted in the soil, you can buy an orchid on the internet in a container at once 5 pieces.

Keep container under conditions in which the seedlings will receive good lighting, but not exposure to direct sunlight. This is necessary in order to make orchids to start photosynthesis. You will see the condensate drops inside the jar. By starting the process of photosynthesis, plants planted in pots can grow and feed themselves, without the help of sugar contained in the nutrient medium.

The first time it is necessary that the container with orchids be covered with a film or a plastic lid. The room temperature should be at least 22-24°C. Twice a day you need to open a container with plants. On the first day for 10-15 minutes in the morning and evening, on the second day of 20-25, and so on, gradually increasing the time. For 3-4 weeks there will be a complete adaptation of plants to the new house.

Phalaenopsis home care – transplanting of seedlings

Before you start, prepare a clean work area, sterilized tools and wash your hands.

  1. Open the container with the plants and carefully place the seedlings from the nutrient medium in a bowl with warm water. Gently wash each orchid, removing the nutrient medium from the roots. Peel the seedlings on a damp, clean paper towel. Be careful, try not to damage the roots.
  2. A plastic pot with a diameter of 5 cm is perfect for a transplant. Mix one part of the ground peat moss or sphagnum with one part of perlite number two (diameter about 3 mm). These ingredients can be purchased at most garden stores. Then slightly moisten the mixture with clean water. Fill the pot with the prepared mixture. Do not tamp it. Using a small stick create a hole in the center, then place the orchid in the moss and gently lay the roots. Do not overfill the pot with soil mixture. Remember – roots of orchids need free air circulation. In the future, keep the moss moist, but not wet.
  3. Recently transplanted orchids should be in a zone with scattered light, good air circulation and relative humidity of 40 to 60 percent.

Spray the orchid with a fungicide solution if you notice a darkening of the plant or spots on the leaves. You can use a general fungicide (root and leaf fungicide) as early as a couple of weeks after planting and for the first few months. Doing this is desirable, but not necessary, since this is just a preventive measure. If you decide to use it – adhere to the concentration recommended by the manufacturer for the preparation of the solution. Pour the plant, and then place about ½ teaspoon solution into each pot.

Of course, after you buy orchids in Ukraine, you have to try, but the result is worth it – you will have several rare and very beautifully flowering plants at home.

Dendrobium at home requires attention, because the frequency of watering depends on the temperature and humidity of each particular room.  You should water the orchid only when the ground mixture begins to dry out.

Fertilizing with liquid fertilizers can be used three weeks after planting, and they can be given repeatedly once a week. Use a general purpose liquid fertilizer in a concentration of – half of the recommended rate.
