How to choose a self-propelled sprayer

Although this will be a surprise for some, agriculture today is one of the most high-tech industries. The need to accurately take into account the differences in yields within even one field and proceeding from this, adjusting the dose of the applied fertilizer makes usage of the latest scientific achievements obligatory.

To get the most out of the culture, plants must receive all the necessary nutrients. It is in this case that the investment will pay off as quickly as possible, and the owner will get the maximum profit. An accurate account of how much nitrogen (and other elements) already exist in the soil will allow us to know the starting point. After that, you can calculate how much and what more you need to fertileze, so that the culture gets everything it needs during growth.

In order to control the dose of the substance as accurately as possible, liquid forms of fertilizers should be used. Another plus of the liquid - in the tank can be mixed different fertilizer and plant protection products. That allows for one pass of the sprayer on the field to do several types of processing (application of UAN, herbicides, fungicides).

What do we expect from this technics?

  1. Modern sprayers should be equipped with a computer that controls the spraying process.
  2. They must be highly passable, to have ability of working in all seasons of the year.
  3. Working in off-road conditions places high demands on the reliability of the running gear.
  4. It must be easy to repair, if needed.
  5. Ability to work in all weather conditions.

What can be found on the market today?

In the market you can find many different options of the self-propelled sprayers.

What can be found today in the market?

There are different representatives of the sprayers on the market the bigger ones and smaller.

self-propelled sprayer with high ground clearance

A large-sized self-propelled sprayer can take several tons of working fluid aboard. The big clearance allows such a technique to pass even over the field with sunflower, without touching them with its bottom. Less often there is a need for refueling, but the great weight of this technique forces each time to assess the consequences of its passage through the field. 4% of ths plants on the field, that fall under its wheels, will perish.

It is enough to multiply the width of the wheels by the number of passes through the field in order to estimate the area that will be "trampled" by the giant heavyweight. In part, this can be reduced by the width of the rods - the wider their coverage, the smaller number of the passes through the field will be processed.

Another point, not always taken into account - the large size of the sprayer makes it less manoeuvrable. On the field with a complex terrain, with the power transmission line supports, the possibilities of its use will be limited.

To accurately account for fluid consumption, you need a computer

The presence of a computer may not seem compulsory. If the output rate of the liquid is a constant, then because of fluctuations in the speed of the machine along the field (turns, slopes) you can forget about exact compliance with the application rate. If the overexpenditure is at least 10% of the total amount of fertilizer used, then only in one season you will overpay a considerable amount. If a computer is installed synchronizing of the outflow rate with the speed of the machinery, then this solves the problem.

To work with the UAN (urea-ammonia nitrate), the working fluid supply system must not contain elements of non-ferrous metals. The nozzles must be replaceable. It is desirable to have at least two sets - jets giving large drops (more than 0.3 mm) if you plan to use UAN for foliar feeding and small (less than 0.3 mm) if you use herbicides, fungicides.

The motor is the heart of any machine

The speed of the field treatment depends on the engine power of the self-propelled sprayer. In structure, the pumps are divided into centrifugal and diaphragm-piston pumps. When using the latter, it should be remembered that in the event of a rupture of the membrane, the chemicals will fall directly into the mechanism.

Depending on the complexity of the unit, the track width can be adjustable, which will inevitably affect the complexity of the repair.

GPS allows you to accurately determine the location of the technics in the field

Systems such as the GPS navigator (parallel driving system) and automatic steerfinder system, which relieves the driver of a self-propelled sprayer from monotonous surveillance for minimal deviations in the course and increases productivity of labor, are becoming increasingly widespread.

Less weight of the sprayer - less pressure on the soil

self-propelled sprayer «Vodoley»

If you are talking about medium farms, a good choice will be a self-propelled sprayer «Vodoley» designed to work with liquid forms of fertilizers. Due to its design features, it is light in weight. Its tires put pressure on the soil within 100-160 g/cm².

To achieve such a measure of pressure on the soil, the volume of the tank with the working fluid has a capacity of 1000 liters. Due to this «Vodoley» can be used for foliar feeding of the plants. Passing through the field with winter crops, the tires of the sprayer do not damage them, the plants are raised in 2-3 days.

High productivity with low fuel consumption

Due to low weight, the consumption of diesel fuel is 0.2 liters per hectare. «Vodoley» treats at least 30 hectares for every hour of work. A special fluid filling system allows to fill the tank of the sprayer in a few minutes.

Reliability in operation and ease of maintenance

The Japanese Kubota engine is reliable and durable. The movement of the sprayer across the field is accompanied by heavy loads on the chassis. Its main components are made of domestic components. Therefore, if there is a need for their repair or replacement, then everything you need can be found in most auto shops.

Onboard computer spraying «Vodoley 1» with GPS monitors the outflow rate, taking into account the speed of the sprayer across the field. Due to this the rate of outflow per hectare is maintained even at a variable speed.
